Dr. Louise Gallagher is a Senior Fellow at the Global Centre for Mineral Security within the Sustainable Minerals Institute at the University of Queensland. She co-leads a new Coalition for Responsible Sand and Silicates currently being incubated at the University of Queensland, building on partnerships with IKEA, Roca Group and MCS Group, among others, to ensure the responsible sourcing and production of sand and silicates. She also leads strategic development of the new OreSand Knowledge Hub and is a co-founder of OreSand Inc, nominated a Top Innovator initiative by the World Economic Forum’s UpLink programme. She is the lead author of the UNEP (2019) report on Sand and Sustainability: Finding new solutions for environmental governance, and co-authored the follow up 2022 UNEP report, Sand and Sustainability: 10 Strategic Recommendations to Avert a Crisis. She also contributed to the Vale OreSand Project with The University of Geneva: OreSand: A potential new solution to the mine tailings and global sand sustainability crises – Final report.
