Bio
Soledad is Lead, Sustainable Trade with the Economic Law and Policy Program in IISD’s Geneva office. Over 25 years, she has been involved in various fields, including a successful 15-year career within the Mexican Ministry of Economy with progressive responsibilities in support of Mexico’s trade and investment policies.

As a multilateral negotiator for the Mexican government, Soledad was posted first to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and later the World Trade Organization, where she represented her country as Deputy Head of Mission. In her capacity as an independent expert, Soledad has adopted new technologies and has brought the practitioner’s perspective into consultancy work for international institutions such as the OECD and the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as into the design and delivery of face-to-face executive training sessions on WTO law, trade policy and trade negotiations for government officials and other mid-career professionals. She is a lecturer in the Executive Master’s Programme in International Negotiation and Policy Making at the Graduate Institute (Geneva) and was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute’s Centre for Trade and Economic Integration.
