Description

Sustainability standards are increasingly shaping mineral supply chains, bringing producing countries both opportunities related to improved practices alongside risks such as constrained policy space or market exclusion. Drawing on IGF’s ongoing collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme, this session will explore the real-world impacts of standards on national governance, regulatory alignment, and development priorities. It will also highlight how countries can more actively shape, implement, and benefit from sustainability standards—and move from being rule takers to standard setters.
