Pete is a mining-environmental and sustainability specialist with over 30 years of international experience, specialising in mine closure/ transition, including advising, auditing, consulting and training on mining projects from greenfield to post-closure, and international development. He holds a PhD and is a Chartered Environmentalist, IEMA Lead Environmental Auditor and a Churchill Fellow. Pete has been involved with, and researched some of, the world’s most significant landscape restoration projects. He was a key member of the team that created the transformational Eden Project in a 160-year-old china clay pit in Cornwall, UK, and continued working there in a variety of positions for many years. He is the founder and director of the niche consultancy Future Terrains International, focussing on delivering good and leading mining practices aligned with international standards. He was also the initiator, project manager and lead author of the recent book ‘102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground’ that showcases over 100 inspiring examples of re-inventing mines sites and rejuvenating mining communities.
