Bio
Gustav Brink holds an LLD (Legum Doctorum) in international trade law from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. In his thesis he undertook a comparative analysis of the anti-dumping systems of the WTO, the EU, the US and South Africa. He has been involved as either investigating officer with the South African Board on Tariffs and Trade and the International Trade Administration Commission or as consultant for the domestic industry, importers and exporters in more than 200 anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard investigations and reviews in Argentina, the EU, India, Indonesia, New Zealand. He has drafted or reviewed trade remedies legislation and/or provided technical training to governments and the private sector in more than 30 countries in the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, has been panelist in 5 WTO disputes and acted as consultant/counsel for parties in 3 more WTO disputes. He is an extraordinary lecturer in mercantile law at the University of Pretoria and has published the only textbook on South Africa’s trade remedies system. He has also contributed chapters to several textbooks and published more than 30 articles on trade remedies and WTO dispute settlement in peer review journals. He is the Managing Director of Trade Remedies Unlimited, a boutique consultancy firm in South Africa, providing clients with advice on international trade law. He has featured in the Trade & Customs section of Who’s Who Law every year since 2012 and has been featured as a “Thought Leader” twice.
